There have already been some stellar start lists this season in both the IRONMAN Pro Series and T100 Triathlon World Tour – but 70.3 Eagleman is right up there with some of those.

For the women’s field features both the 2023 and 2022 IRONMAN World Champions Lucy Charles-Barclay (GBR) and Chelsea Sodaro (USA).

While the men’s line up contains both Lionel Sanders (CAN) and Sam Long (USA) who have both been on the top step of the podium in recent weeks.

Rare recent 70.3 foray for Charles-Barclay

Taking place on Maryland’s Eastern Shore on Sunday June 8th, it offers a maximum of 2,500 points towards the Pro Series standings as well as three slots per gender for the 2025 IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship triathlon in Marbella, Spain.

The 70.3 Worlds was won by Charles-Barclay in 2021 but she hasn’t featured in a 70.3 since Kraichgau in 2023 when she was just beaten by Germany’s Laura Philipp, who succeeded her as IRONMAN World Champion last year.

Charles-Barclay showed she’s in fine form with an emphatic win last weekend at IRONMAN Lanzarote and will wear bib number one.

Also toeing the start line in Cambridge will be Sodaro, who will be looking to rebound following lingering illness that affected her races at IRONMAN Texas and 70.3 St. George.

Making a return to racing following the birth of her first daughter in 2024 – and also scheduled to take in T100 San Francisco the week before – will be 2016 IRONMAN 70.3 World Champion Holly Lawrence of Britain, who is en route to her first full-distance race at IRONMAN Lake Placid.

Challenging that trio of former World Champions will be the likes of multiple 70.3 winner Tamara Jewett (CAN) who made her own IRONMAN debut at Texas in April.

Seconds out

In the men’s field, we’ll see the latest battle in the rivalry between good friends Sanders and Long.

It’s Sanders who has had the upper hand this year, having got the better of Long in impressive style at 70.3 St George recently – though the latter was a clear-cut winner himself a week later at 70.3 Chattanooga.

Also in action is Aussie pro cyclist Cameron Wurf, who Long called “sneaky” for his bike tactics at St. George!
