Gold Coast locks in the latest location for T100 World Triathlon Tour next year

The T100 Triathlon World Tour has found a permanent home for its Australian event. Beginning in 2026, the Gold Coast will become the permanent Australian stop on the tour in March.

The Professional Triathletes Organisation (PTO) has announced a long-term partnership with Events Management Queensland (EMQ) to the sun-soaked shores of Surfers Paradise beach. The bike and run leg will roll through the Gold Coast streets and along the oceanfront Esplanade.

The inaugural race will take place next year on March 21-22. The 100km race, comprised of a 2km swim, 80km and 18km bike, joins the tour alongside stops in Singapore, San Francisco, London, Dubai, Vancouver, Lake Las Vegas, and Qatar.

The event will become a two-day triathlon multisport festival, offering a sprint distance race alongside the 100km format, and a 10km mass participation run. The weekend will also play host to the newly created National Club Championships, in partnership with the country’s national triathlon federation,  AusTriathlon.

Australia calling

PTO CEO Sam Renouf said the demand for an event in Australia is high.

“Whenever we’ve asked the triathlon community where they’d like us to add events, Australia is consistently at the top of the request list. We’re thrilled to bring the T100 to the Gold Coast, one of the world’s premier multisport destinations, and to help build momentum for the Brisbane 2032 Olympics.”

The location will kick start the pros T100 world championship pursuit, said EMQ Chairman Paul Donovan, who anticipates attracting local favourite Ashleigh Gentle. He toted the event as an opportunity to celebrate the country’s “sporting culture and passion” leading into the Brisbane 2032 Olympics.

Fast and full of passion

Gentle, who placed second in the 2024 T100 series, expressed her excitement at the announcement that the tour will make a stop in her own backyard, currently living on the Gold Coast.

“The T100 Triathlon World Tour coming to the Gold Coast is incredibly exciting. Australia has been asking for an event for a long time, so to secure one on the Gold Coast in Queensland, the most perfect place to race a triathlon, is really exciting.  I can’t wait to be able to race on home turf, in front of a home crowd and be able to experience the course with Gold Coasters and Australians,” said Gentle.

“To race a T100 event on my home turf is a dream come true. Australia has wanted this for a long time. The Gold Coast is the perfect place to showcase triathlon—beautiful, fast, and full of passionate fans.”

The next leg of the 2025 T100 tour will be in San Francisco on 31 May, when the world top 20 female and top 20 male triathletes will take on the legendary Escape From Alcatraz Triathlon.
